The Canadian Labour Congress created the Carol McGregor award to recognize the outstanding contributions of a worker with a disability who has made a significant and lasting impact in their union and/or the community by promoting and defending the rights of persons with disabilities.

I am pleased to announce nominations are once again open for the Carol McGregor CLC Disability Rights Award. Attached is the nomination form. We encourage you to distribute it widely and consider nominating an activist from your affiliate. You can also submit the form on the CLC website, linked here. Any union member or organization may nominate a candidate.

All nominations must be received by the deadline, November 10, 2022. Complete nominations must be submitted via the form on the CLC website, or by email to human-rights@clcctc.ca.

2022 marks the eleventh anniversary of the Carol McGregor CLC Disability Rights Award. As workers around the world grapple with the economic and social impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, the importance of championing disability rights and for an accessible return to work for all is paramount. This award is an important opportunity to recognize the efforts and leadership of those advocating for disability justice within the labour movement and our broader communities. Let us celebrate the role of unions in promoting equity and inclusion for workers with disabilities by recognizing those who have championed this important work.

Le Congrès du travail du Canada a créé le prix Carol McGregor afin de reconnaître les réalisations exceptionnelles d’une travailleuse ou d’un travailleur ayant un handicap qui a su influencer son syndicat ou sa collectivité de façon importante et durable par la promotion et la défense des droits des personnes handicapées.

Je suis heureuse d’annoncer que les mises en candidature pour le prix Carol McGregor du CTC pour les droits des personnes ayant un handicap sont de nouveau acceptées. Vous trouverez ci-joint le formulaire de mise en candidature. Nous vous encourageons à le diffuser largement autour de vous et de nommer si possible une militante ou un militant de votre affilié. Vous pouvez également soumettre le formulaire sur le site Web du CTC, dont le lien se trouve ici. Chaque membre syndical ou organisation syndicale peut soumettre une candidature.

Dalton Camp Award 2022

Submissions for the 2022 Dalton Camp Award will open tomorrow! Once again, FRIENDS will award a $10,000 prize to the best-written essay on Canadian media and democracy. A second $2,500 prize will be awarded to the best essay written by a post-secondary student. This annual prize was established in 2003 in honour of Dalton Camp, prolific writer, lifelong supporter of the CBC, and one of the founding members of the advisory council of FRIENDS. This past year has illustrated how the media and our democracy are inextricably linked. The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) Young Workers Program and the United Way Centraide Canada (UWCC) are pleased to present the second annual CLC/UWCC Post-Secondary Scholarship.

The CLC and the UWCC are long-time partners in taking action to create prosperous, inclusive, diverse and respectful communities, safer workplaces, and a fairer Canada for working people. Last year, we created a post-secondary scholarship in recognition of the important opportunities college or university education can provide for young people.
Too often, these opportunities are out of reach for working-class people due to ever-increasing tuition fees.

This $2,500 scholarship is offered in recognition of the efforts and commitment of young workers across Canada who have demonstrated a commitment to positively impacting social and workplace issues in their community.

Please circulate this call for applications to help ensure this scholarship is widely shared.

The deadline for receipt of applications is Friday, June 1, 2018.

Bonjour,

Le programme des jeunes travailleurs et travailleuses du Congrès du travail du Canada (CTC) et Centraide United Way Canada (CUWC) sont heureux de présenter pour la deuxième année la bourse d’études postsecondaires CTC/CUWC.

Le CTC et CUWC, en partenariat depuis longue date, prennent des mesures pour créer des communautés prospères, inclusives, diversifiées et respectueuses, des lieux de travail plus sûrs et un Canada plus équitable pour les travailleurs et travailleuses. L’année dernière, nous avons créé une bourse d’études postsecondaires pour reconnaître les débouchés importants qu’offrent aux jeunes les études universitaires. Trop souvent, ces débouchés sont hors de portée pour la classe ouvrière en raison des frais de scolarité qui augmentent continuellement.

Cette bourse d’études de 2 500 $ est remise en reconnaissance des efforts et du dévouement des jeunes travailleurs et travailleuses partout au Canada dont l’engagement s’est répercuté de manière positive sur les questions sociales et relatives au travail dans leur communauté.

Veuillez largement distribuer cette demande de candidatures pour bourse d’études.
