Dalton Camp Award 2022

Submissions for the 2022 Dalton Camp Award will open tomorrow! Once again, FRIENDS will award a $10,000 prize to the best-written essay on Canadian media and democracy. A second $2,500 prize will be awarded to the best essay written by a post-secondary student. This annual prize was established in 2003 in honour of Dalton Camp, prolific writer, lifelong supporter of the CBC, and one of the founding members of the advisory council of FRIENDS. This past year has illustrated how the media and our democracy are inextricably linked. We’re honoured to continue this tradition of celebrating the most powerful and original writing on these topics. The deadline to submit is December 24, 2021 at 8PM ET. Click on the link below to learn more.

Creative Arts Financial, a credit union that provides mortgages, loans and financial services to arts and media workers

Dear CWA Canada members in Ontario,

CWA Canada, along with several other unions, is supporting a new entity, Creative Arts Financial, a credit union that provides mortgages, loans and financial services to arts and media workers – many of whom can’t get bank loans due to the precarious nature of their work.

As part of the arrangement, CWA Canada sits on the Advisory Board of Creative Arts Financial and gets a small share of any profits – money that can be used to serve you and your Local. But more importantly, we are supporting an institution that supports workers in our industry, including freelancers and part-timers.
